about

Back in the summer of 2009, I was in the habit of recording every practice session.

This album is pulled from those recordings. I tried to keep it as raw as possible. Almost every track is just me, a guitar, and a loop pedal. No overdubbing--recorded in one take, and mostly improvised.

There are some bad notes here and there, but I left the mistakes where they lay. Some of these pieces you may have heard before, and these original improvisations are where they were born.

The exceptions to this rule being "Desolation", and "Live Again". For "Desolation", I added some more effects, and some background atmospherics. For "Live Again", I went all out, adding drums and drenching it with layers of strings.

While editing these pieces, Risen strangely became a concept album. The theme is a journey through from death/desolation back to Earth and to life.

Hopefully this will mirror my own journey back to music again after a few rough years. I'm currently working on an orchestral album, and I'm raising money for new equipment for a return to live performance.
